During the 115th Ordinary General Assembly of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening social security and workers’ rights. The assembly highlighted key priorities, including the consolidation of IMSS Bienestar, the expansion of childcare and education centers, and the implementation of the Salud Casa por Casa program.<\/p>\n
“This means not only thinking about the workers but also prioritizing the beneficiaries. We must ensure there are no delays in providing timely and proper care to all,” Sheinbaum stated.<\/p>\n
The President paid special tribute to the women working at IMSS, acknowledging their dual roles in both professional and domestic spheres. She remarked:<\/p>\n
“Institutions are made up of people, and the workers of the Mexican Social Security Institute are the backbone of this institution. I want to extend a well-deserved recognition to all IMSS workers, particularly the women, who often juggle double shifts\u2014caring for patients with dedication at health centers and hospitals while supporting their families at home.”<\/p>\n
She also praised IMSS General Director Zo\u00e9 Robledo Aburto for his leadership in overseeing health centers and hospitals across the country.<\/p>\n
Robledo reported that from 2019 to 2024, a record-breaking investment of 61 billion pesos was made for major renovations and the acquisition of non-medical equipment in 255 hospitals and 915 family medicine units. This included updates to over 100,000 operating rooms, 5,762 bathrooms, 259 elevators, and 314 air conditioning systems. He further announced that, under President Sheinbaum’s directive, an additional 7 billion pesos would be allocated for 2025 to enhance these efforts.<\/p>\n
The assembly also featured remarks from labor and business representatives. Jos\u00e9 Luis Carazo, from the Confederation of Mexican Workers, applauded government initiatives to improve labor rights, such as minimum wage increases and the formalization of app-based workers. Octavio de la Torre de St\u00e9ffano, President of CONCANACO SERVYTUR, reaffirmed the private sector’s commitment to partnering with the government to ensure a public health system that delivers quality care to all Mexicans.<\/p>\n
