President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo unveiled a comprehensive support program designed to assist Mexican citizens residing in the United States. This initiative includes a range of measures aimed at strengthening consular services, providing legal aid, and enhancing communication with the Mexican diaspora.<\/p>\n
Key components of the program include:<\/p>\n
Strengthened Consular Services: The 53 Mexican consulates in the United States will be fortified to provide enhanced support to Mexican nationals.<\/p>\n
CIAM (Center for Information and Assistance to Mexican People): A 24\/7 hotline (520 623 7874 from the US and Canada, and 001 520 623 7874 from Mexico) will offer legal advice and assistance to migrants.<\/p>\n
Emergency Alert Button App: An app is under development to enable immediate assistance in case of emergencies, connecting users with the nearest consulate and pre-selected family members.<\/p>\n
Consular One-Stop Shop: A digital platform will streamline and simplify 52 consular procedures, starting with civil registry services.<\/p>\n
President Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of protecting the rights of Mexican migrants, stating, “They should know that they have rights, that no one can be deported simply by being taken to the border, but that there is a legal process to be followed. We are launching a campaign in the United States through our consulates so that Mexicans know their rights.”<\/p>\n
Foreign Secretary Juan Ram\u00f3n de la Fuente explained that the CIAM is already operational and will be complemented by the emergency alert app in January 2025. The Foreign Ministry has also established a comprehensive plan to provide legal assistance to detained Mexicans, in accordance with international law and local regulations.<\/p>\n
