The Municipal Government of Jes\u00fas Mar\u00eda, through the Civil Protection Directorate and the Health Institute, is urging citizens to take extra precautions during the winter season to prevent accidents related to cold weather and the unsafe use of home heating methods.<\/p>\n
Among the main recommendations, the population is urged not to use stoves, embers, or combustion heaters in enclosed spaces due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, a highly harmful gas that can be fatal.<\/p>\n
In this regard, the head of Civil Protection, H\u00e9ctor Manuel Reyes Hern\u00e1ndez, indicated that the most common symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include weakness, headache, dizziness, as well as chest pain, and invited citizens to seek safe methods to keep warm at home.<\/p>\n
“We have detected some cases where people leave their vehicles running in the garage without any ventilation, which can be dangerous. Maintaining adequate ventilation is of the utmost importance,” said Reyes Hern\u00e1ndez.<\/p>\n
He added that the area under his charge remains on permanent alert to attend to any contingency arising from low temperatures, such as hypothermia, falling trees, or any other related incident, emphasizing that Civil Protection personnel work 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.<\/p>\n
For her part, the head of the Health Institute, Rosa Isela Torres Valenzuela, indicated that with the arrival of cold weather, cases of hypothermia increase, so she invited citizens to avoid sudden changes in temperature, not to expose themselves to the cold with wet clothing or for prolonged periods, and to dress warmly, paying special attention to children and the elderly.<\/p>\n
She added that in case of hypothermia, it is suggested to offer the affected person hot drinks, cover their head and neck, and take them to a warm place. In more serious cases, go to a health center.<\/p>\n
