President Claudia Sheinbaum Celebrates Tren Maya’s First Anniversary and Inaugurates Sections 6 and 7
President Claudia Sheinbaum marked the first anniversary of the Tren Maya by inaugurating its final sections, 6 and 7, completing the ambitious 1,554-kilometer railway project that spans the Yucatán Peninsula.
During the ceremony, Sheinbaum highlighted the Tren Maya as a symbol of the Fourth Transformation, showcasing Mexico’s strength and cultural heritage.
“The Tren Maya tells the world, loud and clear, that Mexicans come from a proud past and move forward with hope in our hearts. It demonstrates that Mexico is a great nation, achieving daily feats of strength and resilience, earning the world’s respect,” the president stated.
Sheinbaum applauded the efforts of construction workers and engineers from the Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) for their dedication in completing the railway’s newest sections, which connect Escárcega to Chetumal. These additions complete the full circuit around the Yucatán Peninsula.
Looking ahead, Sheinbaum announced plans to consolidate the Tren Maya as a premier global tourist destination. She also revealed future expansions, with railway lines planned from Mexico City to Nogales and Nuevo Laredo, signaling the continuation of transformative infrastructure projects under her administration.
The Tren Maya remains a cornerstone of Mexico’s cultural and economic development, blending tradition and modernity while positioning the nation as a global tourism and transportation hub.
