In an effort to ensure the safety of Mexican migrants, commonly referred to as paisanos, returning from the United States during the holiday season, the Aguascalientes State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE) has launched Operation Welcome Paisano.

The operation, which began this week, includes permanent surveillance at the state’s security checkpoints, where officers greet migrants and offer support during their journey through the state. The goal of this initiative is not only to guarantee the safety of returning paisanos, but also to ensure the well-being of all travelers on Aguascalientes’ roadways.

Manuel Alonso García, head of the SSPE, explained that this operation is part of the broader security strategy within the Shield Aguascalientes Security and Justice Plan, designed to maintain safety throughout the state. “One of the main concerns of Governor Tere Jiménez is to provide peace of mind to the Mexican citizens living in the United States who choose to return to their homeland during this time of year, whether to Aguascalientes or other states. During their journey, they need to pass through Aguascalientes, and we are committed to ensuring their safety,” García said.

As part of the operation, state and federal officers will meet paisanos at the state’s security gates, assess their physical condition, and offer any necessary assistance. They will then accompany travelers along the state’s highways to ensure a safe and peaceful journey.

The objective, García emphasized, is to give migrants the confidence that they will be secure while in Aguascalientes. Additionally, the operation aims to prevent any accidents by verifying that drivers are not fatigued or driving under risky conditions.

This safety operation will continue through January, as many migrants head back to the United States after their holiday visits.
