Federal Powers Release List of Eligible Candidates for Judicial Election
On Sunday, December 15, the evaluation committee announced that out of 3,814 applicants, only 1,048 met the requirements to advance to the second stage of the selection process. This phase will assess candidates’ technical and ethical qualifications for various judicial positions.
The evaluation committees from the three branches of the Federal Government — Executive, Legislative, and Judicial — published their respective lists of candidates eligible to participate in the upcoming judicial elections.
Candidates for Supreme Court Minister
For the position of Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), 25 candidates were deemed eligible. Among the notable names are:
Marisela Morales Ibáñez, former Attorney General of Mexico.
Magda Zulema Mosri Gutiérrez, Magistrate of the Federal Court of Administrative Justice and wife of former Attorney General General Rafael Macedo de la Concha.
Paula María García Villegas Sánchez Cordero, Magistrate and daughter of retired SCJN Minister and former Secretary of the Interior, Olga Sánchez Cordero.
Sergio Javier Molina Martínez, Federal Judiciary Councilor, whose recent vote ended a three-month strike by Judicial Branch workers.
Rosa Elena González Tirado, Magistrate and Federal Judiciary Councilor since 2014.
Candidates for Judicial Discipline Tribunal Magistrate
For the role of Magistrate in the Judicial Discipline Tribunal, nine individuals were eligible, including:
Jorge Antonio Cruz Ramos, former Federal Judiciary Councilor.
Jorge Isaac Lagunes Leano, a prominent magistrate.
Denisse de los Ángeles Uribe Obregón, Magistrate from the Judicial Branch of Veracruz.
Candidates for Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal
For the position of Magistrate in the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judiciary (TEPJF), eight candidates were selected. Among the highlights are:
Gabriela Villafuerte Coello, a current Magistrate.
Rubén Jesús Lara Patrón, another prominent Magistrate.
Adriana Margarita Favela Herrera, former National Electoral Institute (INE) Councilor and current Magistrate in the TEPJF’s Regional Chambers.
